Acterra: Action for a Sustainable Earth:
Provides information on the parent organization of the Recycled Paper Coalition.

America Recycles Day:
Sponsored by the Recycling Coalition of Texas, ARD occurs annually in November. Organizations and local governments across the U.S. sponsor activities relating to recycling and buying recycled. ARD holds a national drawing, awarding a recycled-content house to one of the many people who submit "pledge cards" pledging in some way to increase their recycling or purchases of recycled-content products.

American Forest & Paper Association:
Information and publications from the national trade association of the forest, paper, and wood products industry. Includes "How To Recover Paper For Recycling" and PaperMatcher: A Directory of Paper Recycling Mills (updated annually in August; contains hundreds of recovered paper dealers throughout the U.S., sorted by state, as well as listings for paper and paperboard mills using recovered paper).

Buy Recycled Business Alliance:
A partnership of the National Recycling Coalition, BRBA assists businesses in selecting and purchasing recycled-content products. BRBA members include private and public companies and non-profit organizations committed to increasing the purchase of recycled-content products. The site's online library includes case studies, fact sheets, and newsletters.

Conservatree:
Comprehensive information source on recycled, tree-free and chlorine-free papers. Includes information about new papers, environmental characteristics of established papers, political and legislative issues, manufacturing and distribution information, advocacy issues, answers to frequently-asked questions, etc.

Co-Op America:
Includes the National Green Pages, a directory of socially and environmentally responsible businesses.

Department of Natural Resources, Solid Waste Division, Recycling and Composting Topics, King County, Washington:
This is the home page of the recycling services of King County, Washington. King County Recycling has done cutting edge work with purchasers and public agency departments to promote buy-recycled and recycling efforts. Also check for information on King County's recycled product procurement program.

Environmental Defense Fund:
provides access to brochures on tips for purchasing and using environmentally preferable paper; Recycling World, a newsletter on recycling (check under "Brochures"); and other recycling-related publications.
is a report from the Paper Task Force, a private-sector initiative created to develop recommendations for purchasing environmentally preferable paper while meeting business needs.

Environmental Law and Policy Center:
provides info on buying recycled, waste reduction, and the formation of the Chicago chapter of the RPC.

Environmental Systems of America:
Contains information on green shopping, environmental resources, links to other organizations, and environmental factoids. includes recycling resources, hows and whys, recycling myths, and definitions.

Grass Roots Recycling Network:
GRRN is a North American network of recycling and community-based activists who advocate policies and practices to achieve zero waste, to end corporate welfare for waste, and to create sustainable jobs from discards. The GrassRoots Recycling Network was founded in 1996 by leaders from the Sierra Club, the California Resource Recovery Association, and the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. Sponsors GreenYes listserv, an open (unmoderated) discussion forum focusing on policies and strategies pertaining to sustainable resource policies.

GreenBiz.com:
A free online resource center operated by the nonprofit Green Business Network. Offers a wealth of free resources for mainstream companies seeking to align environmental responsibility with business success. Included are daily news and opinion, tools and reports, job listings, backgrounders on business environmental topics, and annotated directories of organizations, web sites, government agencies, mentoring programs, award programs, events, books, and more.

National Recycling Coalition:
Non-profit which provides technical education, disseminates public information on selected recycling issues, shapes public and private policy on recycling, and operates programs that encourage recycling markets and economic development. See also Buy Recycled Business Alliance.

Office of the Federal Environmental Executive:
The OFEE was formed in 1993 to oversee the implementation of Executive Order 12873, Federal Acquisition, Recycling, and Waste Prevention. The OFEE advocates, coordinates, and assists environmental efforts of the Federal community in waste prevention, recycling, the affirmative procurement of guideline items and the acquisition of recycled and environmentally preferable products and services. Site resources include a downloadable (in Adobe Acrobat) study of performance of paper containing 30% postconsumer content compared with other papers, a newsletter and success stories.

Reach for Unbleached!:
Reach for Unbleached! started as a campaign to encourage consumer acceptance of unbleached or oxygen-bleached paper for many routine uses. The campaign now encourages other htmlects of environmentally-preferred paper use, such as reduction, and also includes a broad focus on toxics in its work towards sustainability in the pulp and paper industry. Its online publication, Mill-Watch, features news, analysis, resources and contacts for pulp and paper issues and paper and pulp mill monitoring. Site includes list of environmental papers, manufacturers, and suppliers.

Recycling at Work:
A campaign of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, formerly known as the National Office Paper Recycling Project. Sponsors "Clean Your Files Day" annually.

Renew America:
Non-profit organization which coordinates a network of community and environmental groups, businesses, government leaders and civic activists to exchange ideas and expertise for improving the environment. Renew America's Environmental Success Index chronicles more than 1,400 effective environmental programs nationwide. Each year Renew America presents its National Awards for Sustainability (awarded to the Recycled Paper Coalition in 1994) to celebrate 26 outstanding programs from across the country for their exceptional achievements.

ReThink Paper:
Non-profit organization dedicated to rethinking and replacing current paper consumption and production practices with environmentally preferable alternatives. Includes information on non-wood papers.

The Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking:
The Museum is an internationally renowned resource on the history of paper and paper technology. In addition to more than 2,000 books, the Museum features a collection of over 10,000 watermarks, papers, tools, machines, and manuscripts. Site offers a virtual tour of the history of paper, including forerunners to paper, invention of paper, advent of paper machine, the modern paper mill, current usage of paper in the U.S., and the mechanics of how paper is recycled.

Southern California Council on Environment and Development:
SCCED works toward building a sustainable future for Southern California by bringing together people from government agencies, environmental and community groups, universities, and businesses in the Greater Los Angeles Area. In facilitated task forces, forums, and conferences, they work to build consensus on programs and policies to protect the environment, strengthen the economy, and ensure equity for the region's 15 million residents.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency:
Site includes publications, projects & programs, news & events, laws & regulations, databases, etc.
The EPA Comprehensive Procurement Guidelines provide EPA recycled content procurement guidelines, background information, documents on buying recycled, and additional recycled product site links.
WasteWi$e is a free, voluntary, EPA program through which organizations partner with the EPA to design solid waste reduction programs tailored to their needs.

PUBLICATIONS

Air & Waste Management Association:
The A&WMA's online publications provide information on environmental science, research, and policy issues. They are A&WMA's primary method of fulfilling its stated purpose: to enhance environmental knowledge by providing quality information on which to base environmental decisions. EM, a Magazine for Environmental Managers and the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association are available online.

Alameda County Waste Management Authority:
provides a list of free resources available from ACWMA in California, including the Resourceful Purchasing Manual, a hands-on buyers manual designed to assist public agencies and others to purchase high-quality recycled content products. The manual contains basic "how-to" information, coupled with up-to-date technical specifications. It offers practical tips regarding recycled content standards and definitions, bid and contracting procedures, state and federal requirements, model purchasing policies, product specifications, purchasing for waste prevention, cooperative purchasing, and monitoring and tracking tools.

Recycled Paper Printing, Inc.:
Founded in 1983 and based in Boston and New York, Recycled Paper Printing provides businesses with full-service printing and recycled office papers. Products are all made from recycled paper with up to 100% post-consumer waste, and include copier papers, text and cover papers, letterhead bonds, envelopes, file folders, sticky notes, and memo pads.

Recycled Products Purchasing Cooperative:
Partially funded by the U.S. EPA, the RPPC's purpose is to increase the use of recycled copy paper in the public and private sectors by providing 30% postconsumer recycled paper for prices which meet or beat what most entities pay for virgin fiber paper. RPPC membership is open to businesses and public entities; there are no membership fees or bulk purchasing requirements.

Treecycle Recycled Paper:
Treecycle is a Montana-based recycled paper seller, offering office paper, stationery, envelopes, pads, tissue products, packaging, food service items, and printing services. Their website also includes overviews of many issues pertaining to the manufacture and use of environmentally preferred papers.

Vision Paper:
Vision Paper produces and distributes kenaf paper and kenaf/recycled blends, processed without the use of chlorine. Their products include text and cover and copier papers.
